Women's cross country wins at home again, men place third at Cathcart Invitational

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's and women's cross country teams hosted their second and final home meet of the year, the Don Cathcart Invitational, with the women earning a win among the 12 teams and the men took a third-place finish.

Women

Saturday's meet marked the second time this year that the women have defended their home turf at Winter Place Park, having also won the Salisbury University Fall Classic earlier this month. In the Cathcart, Salisbury saw its top six runners finish in the top 13 spots in the race, led by junior Ashley Mazer, who finished fifth in a time of 23:02.

With the strong team effort, Salisbury scored 42 points for the victory, nearly half the total of second-place Catholic University of America, which scored 80 points.

Senior Carly Sniffen, in her final race at Winter Place Park in maroon and gold, was seventh in a time of 23:10, followed in eighth by sophomore Liana Foianini, just five seconds back.

Freshman Catie Cambon took 10th in a time of 23:21, while junior Christine Sturm and freshman Allison Keller finished three seconds apart in 12th and 13th, respectively. Sturm crossed the finish line in 23:26 with Keller just behind.

Salisbury's top-seven positions were rounded out by junior Abby Potter, finishing in 24:05 for a 19th-place finish.

Every Sea Gull to run on Saturday improved upon their time from the season-opening run at Winter Place Park.

Men

The men scored 81 points to place third in the field of 13 teams, narrowly edged out by Division II Wilmington (Del.) University, which scored 76 points, but it was Stevenson University that took the top spot with 36 points.

Stevenson's Langston Gash was the race winner in a time of 25:10, but he was forced to hold off Salisbury senior Conner Masteran who charged to the finish in 25:12 to take second place. Masteran's time marked the fastest by a Sea Gull on the Winter Place Park 8,000-meter course in seven years.

Sophomore Mason Kimbell was Salisbury's second runner to place in the top 10, finishing in a time of 26:13 for a 10th-place finish.

The Sea Gulls' next five runners came home in a tight pack, separated by just 39 seconds. Freshman Jack Finnerin placed 21st in a time of 27:05, followed two spots and four seconds later by senior Emmanuel Porquin.

Freshman Ian Hinson placed 29th in a time of 27:38 before sophomore Joey Wiggins and freshman Ethan Gray crossed the line consecutively with Wiggins in 31st in a time of 27:43 while Gray was one second and position behind.

The Salisbury teams will travel for their final regular season meet of the season on Saturday, October 13 at the Hood College Invitational in Frederick, Maryland.
