SALISBURY, Md. – The third-seeded Salisbury University volleyball team advanced to the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) semifinal round after defeating sixth-seeded St. Mary's in its postseason opener on Tuesday night, 3-2. It will travel to take on second-seeded Mary Washington on Thursday, November 7 at 7 p.m.
THE RUNDOWN
HOW WE GOT HERE
- Salisbury finished the regular season with a 17-10 overall record and 5-5 in the CAC to earn the third seed in this year's conference tournament. The Sea Gulls defeated the sixth-seeded St. Mary's Seahawks in the opening round of the tournament at home on Tuesday night, 3-2.
- The team went 11-3 to begin the season out of conference before dropping each of its first two CAC matches. One of those was a 3-1 home loss to Thursday night's opponent, Mary Washington.
- The Sea Gulls finished conference play winning five of its final eight matches to secure the third seed in this year's tournament.
HOW THEY GOT HERE
- Mary Washington finished its regular season with a 15-12 overall record but performed strongly in conference, finishing 8-2 against CAC opponents to lock up the second seed and an opening round bye in this year's tournament.
- It's only two conference losses came against top-seeded Christopher Newport that included being swept on the road and falling 3-1 at home.
- The Eagles enter Thursday night's tilt carrying a four-game winning streak into the postseason.
LAST TIME WE MET
- Salisbury went 0-2 against Mary Washington during the regular season, including being swept on the road in its most recent matchup back on October 16.
- Three Sea Gulls reached double digits in digs during the match, including a team-high 21 from Hailey Dougherty, and 10 each from Amanda Chew and Darian DiMatteo.
- Chew also led the team with nine kills in the match, while Carley Cleland contributed seven and Chloe Adam added another six.
- Blair Pausic recorded a team-high 19 assists in the match, while Dougherty and Kiana Bopp each added five apiece.
UP NEXT
- The winner of Thursday's match will advance to the CAC Championship match on Saturday, November 9 and will square off against the winner of Thursday night other semifinal match between top-seeded Christopher Newport and fourth-seeded Southern Virginia.
- The match will take place at the highest remaining seed's home court with the start time yet to be determined.
