The Salisbury University volleyball team captured its first Capital Athletic Conference victory of the season defeating visiting Penn State University-Harrisburg 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Maggs Physical Activities Center. Amanda Chew led all Salisbury totaling team-high’s with 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .480. Chew recorded six kills in both the second and third set to lead the team while recording just one attacking error for the afternoon. Nicole Venturelli finished with nine kills on 17 total attacks to finish with a hitting mark of .471. Venturelli got off to a quick start registering three kills in the opening set, aiding in a 25-14 victory to help the Gulls jump out to the early 1-0 lead. The Sea Gulls found other ways to score throughout the match as they registered nine service aces on the afternoon led by Chew’s three and Rachel Dubb’s two. Chew registered three in the opening set while Dubbs posted one in the first and one in the decisive third. Hannah Sullivan posted a team-best four blocks including two back-to-back solo blocks in the first set. As a team the Gulls tallied 10 blocks on the defensive end to aid in the victory. Salisbury returns to action on Saturday October 6 when it travels to Swarthmore College. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
