No. 3 Women's Lacrosse fends off No. 5/6 TCNJ, 15-12

EWING, N.J. – The third-ranked Salisbury women's lacrosse team held off a late surge by the No. 5/6 TCNJ Lions to take a 15-12 road win on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Lauren Valenti opened the game with a goal in the first 31 seconds of the game.
  • The Lions tied the game with a tally from Ally Tobler
  • The Sea Gulls responded with a three-goal run, capped off by a Lydia McNulty goal that gave SU the 4-1 lead.
  • The Lions answered the run with a short two-goal run of their own before the Sea Gulls went on another three-goal run in the second quarter to take a 7-3 lead. The run was highlighted by a goal from Camryn Pepper on an Emma Skoglund assist.
  • The Lions added a goal before the break on a free-position from Natalie Berry to reduce the Sea Gull lead to three, 7-4, at the half.
  • Salisbury came out of halftime locker room on fire with a five-goal explosion that pushed the lead to 12-4 with three minutes left in the third quarter. During the run, Pepper tallied three of SU's five goals.
  • TCNJ chipped away at the SU lead, scoring five of the game's next six goals to cut the deficit to 13-9 at the midway point of the fourth.
  • McNulty gave Salisbury added insurance with back-to-back goals a minute apart to push the SU lead to 15-9 with five minutes left in regulation.
  • TCNJ tallied three goals to cut the lead to three, 15-12, but the Salisbury defense held tight to seal the victory.

  • Jennifer LaRocca led the Lions with six points on a hat trick and three assists.
  • Anna Devlin secured a team-high four draw controls.
  • Madison Wernik scooped up a game-high six ground balls.
  • Wayden Ay led the Lion defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
  • Julia Charest started in goal for the Lions with six saves.

  • Salisbury will host the St. Mary's Seahawks on Wednesday, April 27.
  • Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Sea Gull Stadium in Salisbury.
