
SALISBURY, Md. – The second-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team dropped its midweek matchup to the fifth-ranked Franklin & Marshall Diplomats, 16-10, on Wednesday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Salisbury got on the board first less than a minute into the game after Camryn Pepper found the back of the net to give the Sea Gulls the early 1-0 lead.
- Both teams traded a goal each over the next five minutes, with the Salisbury goal coming from Emma Skoglund at the 10:19 mark of the first.
- The Diplomats scored four unanswered goals to put them up 5-2 with just over five minutes to play in the first quarter.
- Lydia McNulty was able to stifle the F&M run with an unassisted goal with 3:11 on the clock, making it 5-3.
- Both teams traded goals to end the quarter, with the Sea Gull goal coming from Meridith Price to make it 6-4 heading into the second.
- Salisbury went on a 4-0 run in the second quarter with two goals from Lily Cavallaro, one from Erin Scannell and Skoglund's second goal of the day to take the lead 8-6 with 41 seconds left in the half.
- Ally Marino netted her third goal of the day for the Diplomats with four seconds left on the clock to send the teams into halftime with Salisbury clinging to an 8-7 lead.
- The Diplomats went on a 4-0 run of their own in the third quarter and blanked the Sea Gulls offense in the period to retake the lead at 11-8.
- Maddy Birch extended F&M's run to six when she scored early in the fourth quarter, making it 12-8.
- Price scored her second unassisted goal of the day to end the Sea Gull drought and cut into the Diplomats' lead, 12-9.
- F&M put the game away with its second 4-0 run of the day to extend the lead to seven at 16-9.
- Delaney Hill scored a goal in the waning moments of the game, but the deficit was too steep to overcome and the Sea Gulls fell with a final score of 16-10.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
- Emma Skoglund tallied a team-high three points from two goals and one assist.
- Meridith Price and Lily Cavallaro each scored two goals.
- Lydia McNulty scored a goal and dished out one assist.
- Erin Scannell, Delaney Hill and Camryn Pepper each scored one goal.
- Caroline McKenna and Elizabeth Hesen scooped up a game-high three ground balls each. McKenna also tied a game-high three caused turnovers.
- Lauren Valenti also caused three turnovers and scooped up one ground ball.
- Mary Claire Hisle earned the start in goal and recorded six saves on 21 shots faced.
FRANKLIN & MARSHALL GAME NOTES
- Lydia Cassilly tallied a game-high six points for the Diplomats on three goals and three assists.
- Ally Marino scored a game-high four goals.
- Maddy Birch and Marissa McGarrey tallied five points each. Birch scored three goals with two assists, while McGarrey scored two goals and dished out three assists.
- Emily Kitchin earned the win in goal, recording 15 saves on 25 shots faced.
UP NEXT
- Salisbury will travel to Fredericksburg, Va., to open up Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) play against the Mary Washington Eagles on Saturday.
- Game time is set for 12 p.m. at the Battleground Athletic Complex.
