INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The fourth-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team qualified for its 18th consecutive and 21st overall NCAA Division III National Tournament and will travel to Lexington, Va. to face the Morrisville State Mustangs for the second round of the tournament on Saturday, May 8 at 1:30 p.m.
Salisbury notched an overall record of 15-0 and earned its 19th conference championship after beating Christopher Newport, 17-8, in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) title game on Saturday. As a result, Salisbury picked up the C2C's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
Salisbury drew a matchup against Morrisville State, who earned the North Eastern Athletic Conference's (NEAC) automatic bid into the tournament with a win over Lancaster Bible, 22-7, in the NEAC Championship game. Salisbury and Morrisville St. are joined by six other teams in the section of the bracket to make up the region, Washington & Jefferson, Farmingdale St., Ithaca, Notre Dame (Md.), Washington & Lee and FDU-Florham.
The winner of the Salisbury-Morrisville St. matchup advance to play the winner of the Washington & Jefferson and Farmingdale St. second-round matchup in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Saturday, May 15, also held at Washington & Lee in Lexington, Va., for a chance to play in the regional finals on Sunday, May 16.
The winners of each of the regional finals will advance to NCAA Final Four weekend, which begins on Saturday, May 22 in Salem Va.
