Strobel, Hesen, Talbert, Nestor earn C2C major awards, seven named All-C2C

ALL-C2C WOMEN'S LACRSSE RELEASE

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) released its 2021 women's lacrosse awards on Tuesday with seniors Alexis Strobel, Carrie Hesen and Julie Talbert and 20th-year head coach Jim Nestor tabbed for C2C major awards while seven Sea Gulls landed on the All-C2C teams.

Strobel was named the C2C Offensive Player of the Year after she finished the regular season on top of the conference in points (79) and assists (57). She leads the NCAA Division III with 57 assists, 4.38 assists per game and sits ninth in the country with 79 points. Strobel also added 22 goals for the Salisbury attack with an 82.6 shot on goal percentage. The C2C honored Strobel twice as its Player of the Week during the season.

Hesen was selected as the first-ever C2C Defensive Player of the Year. One of the leaders on the defensive side of the field, Hesen collected a team-high 43 draw controls, picked up 19 ground balls and caused 16 turnovers. Hesen was a regular on the C2C weekly awards list as she collected four Defensive Players of the Week during the 2021 season, along with three-straight from March 8-22.

Strobel and Hesen notched the 12th and 13th conference player of the year award in program history. It is the first time since Megan Wallenhorst in 2013 that Salisbury received the conference's top honor.

Talbert collected the inaugural C2C Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Off the field, Talbert is a biochemistry major and has maintained a 3.89 cumulative grade-point average. On the field, Talbert is a natural leader for the Sea Gull offense and has scored 18 goals and tallied seven assists for 25 points in the regular season. After graduation, Talbert plans to attend Vanderbilt University to pursue a doctorate in chemistry.

Nestor and the entire SU staff were selected as the C2C Coaching Staff of the Year. Nestor led the Sea Gulls to a 13-0 regular season, which is the program's first undefeated season since 2013. Nestor coached the 2021 team to eight wins against top-25 opponents.

Seniors Lydia McNulty, Strobel and Hesen along juniors Lauren Valenti and Caroline McKenna all earned spots on the All-C2C First Team. Salisbury's five first-team awards led the conference. Senior Kate Lamberti and sophomore Erin Scannell were named to the All-C2C Second Team. It is the first time McNulty, Valenti, McKenna, Lamberti, and Scannell earned all-conference laurels.

McNulty led the team and ranked fourth in the C2C in goals with 39. McNulty also registered six assists for 46 points so far this season. McNulty has a streak of four games with three or more goals in a game and has 11 multi-goal games in 2021. She also has 13 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers.

Valenti totaled 19 points with 18 goals. On defense, Valenti has caused six turnovers while scooping up 17 ground balls. Valenti is another one of the main players on the draw circle as she has collected 29 draws to rank third on the team. Valenti scored a career-high five goals against Roanoke on April 24.

McKenna played a major role in the high-pressure Sea Gull defense. McKenna has played and started in all 13 games this season for Salisbury with 18 ground balls and caused five turnovers. In Salisbury's 13 games, McKenna picked up two or more ground balls in five games and caused a turnover in four different games to help pace the Sea Gull defense to allow 8.7 goals per contest in league play.

Lamberti started all 13 games on defense for the Sea Gulls with 16 ground balls and caused 13 turnovers. A highlight of Lamberti's season was in Salisbury's win on April 3 over CNU, she limited Kelsey Winters to a season-low two assists in the game. She caused two or more turnovers in five games in 2021 with a career-high three caused turnovers against Roanoke on April 24.

Scannell was dominant in the draw circle and grew into her own as a scoring threat for the Sea Gulls. Scannell has scored 37 goals in 2021 which sits second on the team and fifth in the C2C. The attacker has recorded a point in every game with nine multi-goal games. In the draw circle, Scannell won 37 draw controls to rank second on the Sea Gulls.

Salisbury is back in action on Wednesday, April 28 as they host No. 22 St. Mary's (Md.) in the C2C Semifinals. The game is set to begin at 6 p.m.
