
SALISBURY, Md.- The fourth-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team dropped its home opener, 10-7 on Sunday to the eighth-ranked Washington & Lee Generals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Washington & Lee only took two minutes to score the game's first goal when Collette Murray found Christina Cavallo open to sneak it past the Sea Gull goalkeeper Skye Graham.

Salisbury answered the General's first goal with a three-goal run that spanned eight minutes. Lydia McNulty and Alexis Strobel would start the Sea Gull run when Strobel found McNulty open in the middle to tie the game at one with 23:59 remaining in the first half.

Strobel continued the run with her lone goal on the day after Gianna Demato found Strobel open right in front of Washington & Lee keeper, Elliot Gilbert

Erin Scannell capitalized on a free position to cap the three-goal run for the Sea Gulls and extend the lead to 3-1 with 14:22 on the first-half clock.

Washington & Lee answered with a three-goal run of its own to take a 4-3 lead with six minutes left in the half. Cavallo added two goals off assists from Dani Murray. Then, Allie Schwab scoring one off a pass from Blake Cote.
- Julie Talbert tied the game at four with just over a minute left in the first half off an assist from Strobel. Washington & Lee quickly answered back to regain a one-goal lead before halftime, 5-4.

Washington & Lee doubled up its lead to 6-4 five minutes into the second half with a goal from Allie Schwab assisted by Katherine Faria.

Salisbury trimmed the lead to 6-5 two minutes later when Demato tallied her first goal of the day when she beat her defender on an isolation play.

After the Generals pushed their lead back to 7-5 with a Cote goal, Demato notched a goal when she scored an unassisted marker after driving in from the top of the circle to cut the lead to one, 7-6, at the 20-minute mark of the half.

Another three-goal run that spanned 10 minutes allowed Washington & Lee to start pulling away from the game. Back-to-back Murray goals and a Schwab tally would extend the Generals' lead to 10-6 with eight minutes left in regulation.

Salisbury would not go down without a fight. With 1:23 remaining in the game, Demato found Delaney Hill to score the game's final goal.
