MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team defeated Penn State University-Harrisburg, 65-42, on the road on Saturday and swept the season series against the Capital Athletic Conference opponents.
Salisbury (15-6, 7-3 CAC) came out in full force to begin the game with a quick 10-0 run that included a Kylie Webb triple and four points from Amber Onyekwere. Penn State-Harrisburg (8-13, 2-8 CAC) got on the board with 5:49 to go in the opening quarter, but the Sea Gulls kicked off another 8-0 run to take an 18-2 lead. The Lions scored the next seven points, but a Kaylyn French layup closed the quarter with Salisbury up, 20-9.
The maroon and gold had another quick 7-1 run to open up that second quarter that featured a triple by Onyekwere. Kaylee Otlowski and Rachel Ryan both scored six points in the frame and the Sea Gulls carried a 37-13 lead into halftime.
The Lions came out with more fire in the third quarter, outscoring Salisbury, 17-11 to cut the deficit to 48-30 on the back of two Laurel Amey three-pointers.
Salisbury stole back to momentum in the fourth quarter by outscoring its opponent 17-12, including a 9-0 run sparked by a Courtney Brigham layup with 7:22 to go. The win marks the third-straight conference victory for the Sea Gulls.
Salisbury had two players tally double-doubles, as Otlowski scored 10 points and secured 13 rebounds and Ryan scored 10 points while adding 10 boards. Onyekwere led all Sea Gulls with seven assists to go along with nine points.
The team continues its road trip when it travels to York College of Pennsylvania on Wednesday, February 6. Opening tip is set for 6 p.m.
