Men's tennis opens 2019 with 9-0 win against Dickinson

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 win against Dickinson College in its first match of the 2019 season on Saturday afternoon at the Salisbury University Indoor Tennis Center.

The Sea Gulls (1-0) dropped just five games in the three doubles matches with a quick 8-1 win at No. 3 from senior Kelson Weber and junior Patrick MacLean to begin the contest.

Juniors Ian Siew and Colt Williamson picked up an 8-3 win at the No. 1 spot, getting a break in the opening game and holding the lead the rest of the way, breaking again for a 6-3 lead before closing things out.

Juniors Matthew Ryan and Alec Angradi, at No. 2, followed with an 8-1 win to finish off the doubles sweep.

In singles, Williamson, playing at No. 3, picked up two quick breaks to earn a lead in the first set, winning 6-2, and closing out the match with a 6-1 second set.

Angradi battled the No. 37-ranked player in Division III tennis, earning a straight-set win. Angradi broke the serve of Leonid Sorkin in the opening game and quickly took the opening set, 6-1. The second set was close throughout, needing a tie-breaker, which went extra points, but Angradi closed things out with a 7-6 (10-8) win in the breaker, sealing the Salisbury team win.

Siew needed three sets to collect the win at No. 2 singles, winning 6-0, 5-7, 10-7.

Weber won at No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-2 with sophomore Stefan Hein picking up a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 5 and MacLean closing out the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6.

Next weekend, the Sea Gulls will get three matches in at home, hosting Virginia Wesleyan University and Bridgewater (Va.) College on Saturday, February 23 and Goucher College on Sunday, February 24.
