Fotiou Goal Secures Win for Sea Gulls Against Virginia Wesleyan.

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University men's soccer team shut out the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins, 1-0, in a very defense-heavy game on Saturday. 

THE RUNDOWN

  • Final Score: Salisbury 1, Va. Wesleyan 0 

  • Records: Salisbury (5-1) | Va. Wesleyan (1-4) 

  • Location: Sea Gull Soccer Stadium- Salisbury, Md. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • A slow offensive start for both teams, but after the first half, Salisbury lead in shots 7-3 over Va. Wesleyan. 

  • After a foul in the box, Dolph Hegewisch had a penalty kick in the 53rd minute, but Virginia Wesleyan's Griffin Potter saved the penalty shot to keep the game scoreless. 

  • In the 76th minute, Quincy Tyler got a low cross over to George Fotiou in front of the box. Fotiou one-timed a shot past Potter to tally the game's only goal. 

GAME NOTES

  • Salisbury tripled Virginia Wesleyan in shots, 24-8. 

  • The Sea Gulls held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks. 

  • Salisbury put 11 shots on goal with Griffin Potter stopping 10 shots.
