
2021 USILA / Dynamic Preseason All-American Division III
SALISBURY, Md. – Seven Salisbury University men's lacrosse standouts were selected as 2021 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) / Dynamic Preseason Division III All-Americans. Salisbury collected the most first-team preseason honors on the Division III list.
Josh Melton, Jarrett Bromwell. Brad Greik. Brett Malamphy, Kevin Murphy and Brad Apgar were all tabbed for the first team while Cross Ferrara received second-team accolades. After the 2019 season, Melton, Malamphy and Apgar were first-team All-Americans, Murphy and Greik earned second-team honors and Ferrara was an honorable mention selection.
The USILA selection is the second preseason award of the 2021 season for Malamphy, Apgar and Ferrara, with all three recognized by U.S. Lacrosse Magazine. Malamphy was named the Preseason Specialist of the Year while Apgar earned the Preseason Defender of the Year award.
Melton tallied 18 assists, 15 goals with 13 ground balls in 2020. In his career, Melton totaled 254 points with 129 goals and 125 assists. Melton has added 96 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers from his attacking position.
Bromwell netted 11 goals from the midfield a season ago along with 11 ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Malamphy scooped up a team-high 63 ground balls and went 96-of-125 (76.8 percent) on faceoffs in 2020. So far, Malamphy has a faceoff win percentage of .711 with 594 wins out of 835 attempts. In 2019, Malamphy was the Capital Athletic Conference (now Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference) Player of the Year.
A USILA Scholar All-American last year, Greik picked up 14 ground balls, caused seven turnovers and added a goal and an assist through seven games. In his career, Greik picked up 65 ground balls, caused 31 turnovers, scored 10 goals and dished out three assists.
Apgar and Murphy were the team leaders on the defensive half of the field during the shortened 2020 season. Apgar picked up 16 ground balls and caused a team-high 16 turnovers. Murphy scooped up 19 ground balls and six caused turnovers in the defensive midfield. Murphy also added a pair of goals and a pair of assists.
Ferrara tallied a team-best 26 goals along with nine ground balls, six assists and caused six turnovers in the seven games played a season ago. Ferrara registered two or more goals in each of the team's seven games in 2020.
Top-ranked Salisbury is scheduled to open the 2021 season on the road at No. 12 Lynchburg on Saturday, March 6 at noon. Salisbury will open the home schedule on Tuesday, March 16 against Mary Washington at 4 p.m.
