SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 7 Salisbury University field hockey team took down the No. 4 Messiah Falcons, 2-1 at home on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Messiah came out the gates fast with seven first-quarter shots and kept possession for most of the period, but the Salisbury defense held strong. Sarah Jackson made two defensive saves in the first quarter.
- Messiah had two penalty stroke chances in the first quarter. Kristen Musser's stroke in the fifth minute went wide while
- Messiah broke the scoreless tie in 17th minute when Josie Weaver corralled a deflection and passed the ball over to Abby Boyer for a goal.
- Jackson tallied another defensive save in the 19th minute off a shot by Kristen Musser.
- Tara Flavin tied the game at one in the 28th minute when she was able to reel in a rebound and flicked a shot past the Messiah keeper.
- After a scoreless third quarter, Salisbury earned a penalty stroke early in the fourth. McKenzie Mitchell stepped up to the spot and blasted a shot past the Messiah goalie for the eventual game-winner.
GAME NOTES
- Messiah outshot Salisbury, 11-10 but all 11 of Messiah's shots came in the first half.
- Salsibury tallied 12 penalty corners compared to Messiah's seven. Salisbury held an 8-0 advantage in penalty corners in the second half.
- Tara Flavin and McKenzie Mitchell each scored a goal for Salisbury.
- Dom Farrace made three saves for her fourth win of the season.
- Sarah Jackson notched three defensive saves to preserve the win.
