Mofor rushes for four touchdowns as Salisbury blanks Southern Virginia 33-0

BUENA VISTA, Va. – The No. 25 Salisbury University football program kept its unbeaten streak alive this season with a 33-0 victory over host Southern Virginia University on Saturday afternoon.

After a tough first half, the Sea Gulls (7-0, 6-0 NJAC) used a 27-point second half to secure the victory and continue its unbeaten streak. Mike-Ryan Mofor scored all four touchdowns on the afternoon for the maroon and gold as he racked up 67 yards on 12 carries to produce a 5.6 yard per carry average.

After a tough opening half in which the Gulls settled for two Trevor Skoglund field goals of 23 and 20 yards,  the offense began to finds its stride in the second half. Andrew Britt got the Gulls off to a quick start in the second, intercepting a Zach Poulsen pass and returning it down inside the 10-yard line to set up Mofor for the first touchdown of the game and a 13-0 lead.

Mofor pushed the advantage to 20-0 with 13:34 remaining in the contest with a one-yard touchdown run. The score capped an eight-play 43-yard drive that took 2:02 off the clock. He would find the end zone two more times on the afternoon, all in the fourth quarter on drives that combined for 17 plays and 79 total yards to help earn the victory.

The Salisbury defense held the Knights (2-4, 1-4 NJAC) to a total of 102 yards, which included a mark of 60 on the ground and 42 through the air. Salisbury was also successful in getting Southern Virginia off the field on 3rd down, limiting the home team to just two conversions on 13 attempts for a conversion percentage of 15%.

Harold Kwigova led the defensive effort with nine total tackles and half a tackles for loss. Three players totaled five tackles, including safety Sean Carroll, who tallied three assisted and one solo tackle while also recording a pass breakup. The shutout is the team's third of the year and first in the month of October.

Salisbury returns to action on Saturday, October 27 when it travels to Rowan University for a showdown with the Profs. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium.
