SALISBURY, Md. – After having himself a pretty good month in just two games, outfielder Justin Meekins of the third-ranked Salisbury University baseball team was named to the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week as one of four outfielders for the week of March 29-April 4, revealed on Tuesday afternoon.
Meekins, a fifth-year senior from Berlin, Md., found his stroke in a big way during the Sea Gulls' doubleheader sweep against Southern Virginia on Saturday. In Game 1 he went 3-for-5 with a double, home run, two runs scored and four RBIs. Meekins turned in an encore performance in Game 2, smashing another home run and going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs.
In total, the three-time first-team all-conference selection slashed .600/.667/1.300 in the pair of games and either scored or drove in 12 of Salisbury's 37 runs. The Sea Gulls won the two games 14-2 and 23-1, respectively.
Through nine games this season, Meekins is slashing .441/.537/.735 with one double, three home runs, a team-high 13 RBIs, 14 runs scored and seven stolen bases in nine attempts. He leads the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) in batting average and home runs while ranking top-three in RBIs and stolen bases.
Meekins and the Sea Gulls are back in action on Wednesday afternoon with a C2C showdown at Christopher Newport. First pitch from Captains Park is set for 3:30 p.m.
