SALISBURY, Md. – After thrashing a conference foe twice over the weekend, the Salisbury University baseball team stood pat at No. 3 in the Week 7 D3Baseball.com/NCBWA Division III Top 25 poll, revealed on Tuesday morning.
The Sea Gulls, now 10-1 on the season with a six-game winning streak to boot, earned 548 points in the latest tally, landing approximately 50 points between the second- and fourth-ranked teams. The top three of Trinity (Texas), Washington University and Salisbury held steady, while Webster and Marietta rose into the top five.
Salisbury swept a Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) doubleheader on Saturday, defeating Southern Virginia 14-2 and 23-1 on the road. Left-hander Jackson Balzan struck out 10 over six strong innings in Game 1, earning C2C Pitcher of the Week for his efforts. With their latest offensive eruption, Salisbury is now averaging 10.9 runs per game overall and 15 runs per game in C2C play.
Christopher Newport received three votes in Week 7, remaining the only other C2C team to receive national support. The Sea Gulls and Captains are slated for three games over four days and two locations this week, starting with a contest in Newport News, Va., on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. The teams will then play at Sea Gull Baseball Stadium on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday at 12 p.m.
