SU ranked No. 9 in Preseason Poll

MINNEAPOLIS – The Salisbury University baseball team is ranked No. 9 in the Preseason 2012 (National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association) Top 25, announced recently.

SU (2011: 34-14) received 351 points in the poll, just ahead of Heidelberg University with 348. Marietta College (625), Chapman University (579) and Kean University (559) earned the top three spots, respectively.

The Sea Gulls will face three teams in the poll this season. No. 5 State University of New York at Cortland comes to Salisbury on Feb. 19 for one game at 1 p.m. No. 7 Christopher Newport University and SU play a home-and-home pair (March 21 in Salisbury at 3 p.m., and March 29 in Newport News, Va., at 2 p.m.). No. 21 Shenandoah University will also pay a visit on April 28 at 1 p.m.

Salisbury advanced to its 12th consecutive NCAA tournament and the third NCAA College World Series in school history in 2011. The Sea Gulls open their 2012 campaign Feb. 15 against Virginia Wesleyan College at the SU Baseball Field. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
